Kelvin Chikumbirike: A Musical Journey:

Kelvin Chikumbirike's musical journey began with a different dream altogether - that of becoming a professional footballer. However, fate had other plans for him. As he grew older, his love for the mbira instrument, a traditional Zimbabwean instrument, began to overshadow his passion for football. Eventually, Chikumbirike found himself irresistibly drawn to the enchanting melodies of the marimba, a xylophone-like instrument that resonated deep within his soul.

Driven by his newfound passion, Chikumbirike embarked on a quest to master the art of marimba playing. He honed his skills, performing in various venues across Zimbabwe, captivating audiences with his virtuosity and infectious enthusiasm. His talent did not go unnoticed, and he had the privilege of collaborating with renowned international artists, further expanding his musical horizons.


Viama Arts Trust: Empowering Through Music:

In 2017, Chikumbirike founded the Viama Arts Trust, an organization dedicated to teaching music and art to homeless youth, people living with disabilities, prison inmates, and other disadvantaged and disabled populations. Through Vaima, Chikumbirike has been able to bring the transformative power of music to those who need it most. Through this organisation he has been able to host the Vaima Arts Trust Marimba Festival




Chikumbirike's work with Vaima Arts Trust extends beyond teaching music. He has also become an accomplished marimba maker, crafting mobile marimbas that are affordable, made from recycled materials, and easily transportable. This innovation has made marimbas more accessible to larger groups of people, enabling them to experience the joy of music-making.

Kelvin Chikumbirike's impact on the community cannot be overstated. His dedication to teaching music has touched the lives of countless individuals, providing them with a sense of purpose, belonging, and hope. Chikumbirike's work has garnered recognition both locally and internationally. He and his team have performed at prestigious events such as the Harare International Festival of the Arts (HIFA) and the Miombo Magic Festival. Notably, Chikumbirike participated in setting the Guinness World Record for the largest marimba ensemble, a testament to his commitment to promoting the marimba as a symbol of unity and cultural heritage. He was part of stella cast that graced the 2019 Zimfest in the United States of America. Recently Chikumbirike launched a Visual and performance and Arts quiz on the local television channel in Zimbabwe 3KTV, which is called The VPA Quiz Show.
